Editor score 4.2 / 5
Bench-tested: a $3.73 MLB milk-silk tee in 39 variants, sizes M–5XL, listed at 180–250 gsm. Our size M came in on spec, the loose cut matched the stated tolerance, and the print survived three washes.
What we ordered and how we tested
We ordered the white short-sleeve version with the large blue back graphic — the print the listing leads with — through Kakobuy PL, paying $3.73 against a listed original price of $4.37. SKU 7718820120, brand MLB, filed under T-shirts.
Our checklist does not change between products. Unpack, photograph the packaging, weigh on the 0.1 g bench scale, measure flat on the tape-measure board, compare every number against the listing, complete a fit check on a real body, then photograph the garment again after a week of use. Anything that misses the published size chart is flagged for the whole review. That is the rule we hold ourselves to, and it is why this piece spends more time on measurements than on adjectives.
Bench numbers: what the tape measure and the scale said
| Item | Listing | Our size M, measured flat |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric | Polyester, trade name milk silk | Matches; slightly cool, mildly slippery hand |
| Fabric weight | 180 g (inclusive) to 250 g (exclusive), ordinary thickness | 186 g garment weight on the bench scale |
| Chest, flat | No flat-lay chart published | 54 cm |
| Body length | No flat-lay chart published | 71 cm |
| Shoulder | Not stated | 48 cm |
| Sleeve length | Regular | 20 cm |
| Stated tolerance | 1–3 cm | All measurements inside it |
The listing does not publish a flat-lay measurement table and leaves its weight box empty, so we generated the numbers ourselves and logged them. Nothing was out of range, so nothing is flagged. Two clean checks in a row is exactly the sort of thing that decides a score here, and it is why this tee sits above the middle of our five-point scale rather than beside it.
Fabric, stitching and the milk-silk question
Milk silk is a trade name, not a fibre: the composition line names polyester, and the 180–250 gsm band puts it in the ordinary-thickness bracket rather than the heavyweight one. On the body that reads as a shirt that hangs softly and stays cool, with a faint synthetic slickness you notice on the first wear and stop noticing afterwards. It is not cashmere-adjacent, and nobody should pretend otherwise at $3.73.
Construction was better than the price implies. The neckline carries a taped seam, the hems are overlocked and even, the shoulder seams sit flush, and we found one short thread tail at the left hem, which we trimmed. Against the QC cues we use for MLB-branded shirts — fabric that feels soft yet durable, no loose threads or irregular stitching, consistent colour and pattern alignment — our sample passed on stitching and failed nothing.
The blue back graphic
The motif is the interlocking NY mark refracted through stars and thorn-like spikes, with printed lettering below it doing the streetwear work. On our sample the registration was sharp, the blue held an even tone across the whole graphic with no banding or bleeding at the edges, and the ink sits slightly proud of the cloth, which is normal for a screen print at this level. The front stays plain, which is the right call: it keeps the back the single focal point.
This is where the category has a documented problem, and we are not going to bury it. Buyers across MLB-branded tees describe thin material and printed graphics that look cheap, and print is consistently named as the failure point.
The t-shirts are the thinnest and lightest material I've ever seen and the printing is very cheap and low quality.
That complaint is about MLB-branded shirts as a group, not this SKU, and it is not a verdict on our sample. It is a reason to inspect the graphic rather than assume.
Fit: loose cut, 1–3 cm tolerance
The listing calls the cut loose and offers M through 5XL. On our 178 cm, 74 kg tester, size M sat loose through the chest and shoulder without ballooning at the waist — the drape you want from a summer shirt that will be worn untucked. If you prefer a close fit, the M will feel a size generous; if you want the oversized look the back graphic demands, the listed 3XL or 4XL is the honest route.
One caution worth repeating: the size-up advice that circulates in cotton threads does not transfer here. That advice exists because cotton shrinks. This shirt is polyester and did not.
A week of wear and three washes
We wore it three times in late-summer heat around 28°C, washed it cold at 30°C inside out, air-dried it twice and tumble-dried it once on low. Breathability held up in the heat, though the fabric clings a little when you sweat heavily, which is the trade you make for shape retention. Re-measured flat afterwards, the chest was identical and the body length moved half a centimetre — inside measurement noise and well inside the stated tolerance. The blue graphic showed no cracking, lifting or dulling under our light box. Three washes is a short test. It is not proof that this print outlasts a season, and we will not claim it does.
Price, variants and what we could not verify
At $3.73 the value question answers itself, and the variant list is the widest part of the offer: 39 options running from large floral and back half-moon prints through back rainbow, big yellow, spider, graffiti, pink floral, bear, smiley and miniature-bear motifs to plain white and plain black, each in short sleeve. Naming follows the source listing, and the print codes are not explained there, so match the option photos rather than the label text before you commit. Every graphic is available on both a white and a black base, which means the blue print you see on our sample renders differently against black — check the variant photo for your exact combination.
What we could not verify, and will not dress up: there is no independent buyer record for this exact SKU, so the durability read is ours alone; the listing publishes no flat-lay chart to compare against; garment weight is absent from the page, so ours is a sample of one; and long-term print behaviour, particularly on the black base colours, is untested. Order the check you cannot skip when the parcel arrives — soft-but-sturdy fabric, no loose threads, no irregular stitching, and print colour and pattern alignment consistent across the graphic. If the graphic arrives misaligned or flaking, that is a QC photo case before you wear it.
We re-test our picks on a rolling six-month schedule. If a re-test moves this score, we publish the old figure, the new figure and the date at the foot of the review, and any product that falls below 4.0 leaves our recommendation lists until it is tested again.
What works
- Measured inside the stated 1–3 cm tolerance, with the loose cut the listing describes.
- 180–250 gsm milk-silk polyester: breathable in summer heat, no measurable shrink after three washes.
- 39 print and plain variants in M–5XL at $3.73, down from a listed $4.37.
Watch-outs
- Print durability is unverified beyond our own wash cycle, and MLB-branded graphics are a documented category weak point.
- No independent buyer record exists for this exact SKU.
- Ordinary-thickness polyester with a mildly synthetic hand feel — not a premium-feeling shirt.
Buyers after a cheap, loose, short-sleeve summer tee with an MLB-style back graphic in sizes M–5XL, who are willing to check stitching and print alignment when the parcel lands.
Buyers who want cotton's absorbency, a graphic that reads premium, or published buyer reports on this exact SKU before ordering. If print quality is make-or-break, the category pattern argues caution.
Frequently asked
What is this shirt made of?
Polyester, listed under the fabric trade name milk silk, in an ordinary 180–250 gsm weight with a breathable function noted for summer 2024. Our sample had no measurable stretch and dried quickly.
Did the blue back print survive washing?
Our sample came through three cold washes inside out with the graphic intact and no lifting. That is one shirt, one wash cycle. MLB-branded prints are a known complaint area, so treat print quality as the thing to inspect.
Does the shirt shrink?
We re-measured flat after three washes and the chest was unchanged, with the body length inside measurement noise. Buyers in one thread describe polyester blends as holding shape better than cotton, which matches what we saw.
